McCarthy’s decision-making process seemed driven by the belief in giving "Cooper's opportunity," as the coach put it. His reluctance to fully transition to Lance was evident in his comments: "We're not there yet. I mean, we had a package for him. We wanted to get him into the flow of the game was the thought process coming in here." The strategic move to reintroduce Rush during a critical juncture was also explained by McCarthy: "I just believe in reps. I just didn't want to put him in there, something that he hadn't had a lot of reps in. I put Cooper back in for that play, for third down, we had the turnover there. Something [starting Lance] I'll obviously discuss tomorrow."
